Extra- Negative Justification

I find it incredibly compelling and driving to faith, not to try and make sure everything that you believe is 100% true and trumps all other evidences given by other worldviews, but to just consider how inadequate other worldviews are at explaining everything on this earth and in this life. Simple as that.

Zeitgeist : The movie

A month or so ago I watched an interesting movie called "Zeitgeist". The movie was called something to the effect of "The greatest lie ever sold" as it spoke of Christianity. I don't mean to be rude at all because I know the person who made the movie put work into it, but it seems, "the greatest lie ever sold" fits better as the description of the movie itself. The guy honestly was well meaning I believe, but his facts are quite wrong!

These are examples of arguments that were popular a couple of decades ago, yet have been silenced and humiliated by the consensus of biblical scholarship- from the Jesus Seminar all the way to the conservative scholars, across the board. Almost half of its claims are refuted by the simple fact that Jesus Christ was not born on December 25th, as it so quickly embraced in order to invoke these mysterious "parallels". 1

Here are some links to articles writing about it. I want to do some more studying on antiquity before I write my own refutation of it.

The movie is definitely a good watch though, the guy really did put a lot of work into the effects and visuals.

Satisfaction

I just got back from a trip to Macon where I was in a training group for a conference going up to Minneapolis this summer to do some politics about the presbytery. But I was talking to a pastor who is in my group, and he told me something that I need to remember. I was telling him about how important apologetics is in the church these days, because America was becoming increasingly skeptical of Christianity. He shot back at me, "It's true that society has become more skeptical of religious claims, but it seems more to me that the problem is that people are looking for a new source of fulfillment." I thought about this and realized: "Because religion has such a bad name, and appearance, huh? Nobody thinks it's got anything in store for them." He was quick to assure me, "Exactly." He went on to say that he believes America is becoming less "religious" and more spiritual.

I'm glad people are finally getting around to realizing that religion really does "poison everything"- like Christopher Hitchens says.

It's important to remember, however, that Christianity is the only theistic belief that is not inherently a "religion". It is essentially relational. Christianity is the only belief where the believer receives the work of God, instead of earning the work of God by themselves. And, because of this, it is the most healing faith. The healing faith. How great is it to have God's approval ALL the time- and not just when you're doing good. How good is it to have a faith whose founder says 'stop with your "good" works that you don't even like doing, and let me change your heart so that it becomes your delight, and good works flow out of you like streams from a river?'

Christianity- Christ himself is the answer to every one of our hearts longings. Whether it be spiritual, relational, whatever it is. I'm not lying to you, my friends. Christ is the answer to absolutely every desire we've ever had. Don't believe me? I've been there. Doubt your doubts. It's true.

'On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38Whoever believes in me, as[a] the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him."'

These streams of water are real. They are very real. And out of your soul will flow streams of living satisfaction and comfort. It will fill you with hope and give you inner peace. I'm not lying. I repeat this because I've been in such a state where not only did I not believe these claims, but even if I believed it, i didn't want to take advantage of it! I'm telling the truth- Jesus was not lying.

"I think God sometimes plays a really rotten practical joke on a person when He grants them the deepest wishes (so they think) of their heart and then later they realize they want to kill themselves" Great Quote. God fills us, everything else fails!

Evidence goes one way, emotions go the other

In my studies of apologetics and of comparing different worldviews, even when I feel like my soul is laid bare in anguishing doubt about the truth of the Christian world view, I turn to my emotions and say, "Is this all you can bring against Jesus? The mislead notion that it might not be true?" In fact, it is almost in my peak moments of doubt that I feel I know that the Christian World view is true, because the only thing that has led me away from it is my emotions, not the evidence.

Praise God!

By the way, I found out how to make... Blinking Text!!!

Pain

There are some truths, heartaches in life that you simply can't read about, hear about, or understand until you've experienced them. There are some states of heart that only come about by living through situations which bring about that state of heart.

I guess, all I'm saying is, don't automatically write people off as crazy. Odds are, there is pain there to cause seemingly irrational beliefs/behavior.
